Portable ACs are cheap, compact and movable (and doesn’t require installation). However, they are low powered and might not be enough to cool or heat your room or home office. On the other hand, split air conditioning systems cost more ($1,000 to $3,000) and must be installed by a professional technician. Split ACs though have more power and they can effectively cool or heat a room (and maintain a comfortable temperature all day or all night long).

Portable or split AC?

Portable air conditioners are cheap and handy, especially if you just need a quick solution for that uncomfortable temperature and high humidity. You can instantly place a unit in the corner and move it to the desired place anytime. You can place it near you or just a bit far away depending on your comfort requirements and preference.

However, its low power (because it’s designed to be compact and portable) is a huge drawback. Some days and nights it might not satisfy you or deliver that comfortable temperature you badly need during unusually hot summer nights and days. It’s especially the case when you’re using it in a large room (even if you leave it turned on for the whole night, it might not still be enough). Also, the efficiency might be low (you won’t get the most out of every dollar you pay for its power).

In contrast, you’ll get more power and comfortable results from split air conditioning systems. Although it will become a permanent fixture in your room or home office (not mobile compared to portable units), the consistent comfort it provides is always worth it. It requires professional installation but it can all be done within a few hours and you won’t ever think about it again. Well, as mentioned though, the costs are higher and expect the energy bills to be higher too. But if you prioritise consistent comfort throughout the day or night (plus enough power to achieve that quickly and sustain it), a split AC is still a practical choice (especially if the space is sizable, you often use the area and there are times where there are multiple occupants).

When it comes to split ACs, you can immediately find some practical options here. Hitachi, Panasonic, Fujitsu, Daikin, Samsung and Mitsubishi Electric brands are available here and we can send a licensed technician to install the unit.
